Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Montana Governor’s Cup Marathon
Partners With Montana Marathon

“The marathon is a charismatic event. It has everything. It has drama. It has competition. It has camaraderie. It has heroism. Every jogger can’t dream of being an Olympic champion, but he can dream of finishing a marathon.” Fred Lebow, road racing pioneer and founder of the New York City Marathon.

Welcome to the 2009 Montana Governor’s Cup Marathon, Relay, Half Marathon, 10K and kids events!

In honor of the original Governor’s Cup, intended to promote health and fitness through a running race that would migrate across the state, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Montana (BCBSMT) has partnered with the 11-year-old Montana Marathon in Billings and will migrate the Governor’s Cup marathon, half marathon and marathon relay to a new venue in September, 2009.

This partnership will broaden and strengthen BCBSMT’s message to ”Live Smart – Live Healthy” and will be reflected in a new race name – The Montana Governor’s Cup Marathon.

The Montana Governor’s Cup Marathon, a USTAF certified course, begins in the rural community of Molt and finishes in downtown Billings.  The race hosts a marathon, half-marathon, and marathon relay for both runners and walkers along with a 10K and kids’ run.  The marathon (USATF MT06011-MF) starts at 7:00 AM with bus transportation from Daylis Stadium. The course has about 6 rolling hills, none too difficult, with a spectacular drop at the 12-13 mile mark. The half marathon starts on the same course with a mile long downhill in the first mile, continues on the marathon course through Yellowstone Country Club, with a slight uphill at mile 19, turning on 46th St. downhill to the start of the 10K at Rangeview Park. The course then runs on the city bike trail to Poly Drive, down hill to Colton, to finish on flat Parkhill Drive, downhill on 3rd Ave. into Daylis Stadium for the final 300 meters on the track. The 2009 marathon has been designated the Road Runners Club of America Montana State Marathon Championship.
